Supervisor of the Motion Analysis Laboratory

Job Description:
Function as a lead Motion Analysis Laboratory allied health staff member. Involved in multiple aspects of biomechanical research and clinical service, as directed by the Lab Director. Focus areas include: patient clinical assessment, kinematic and kinetic analysis, electromyography, and computer modeling. Responsible for independently assisting customers in achieving the stated goals of the Motion Analysis Laboratory. Customers include research fellows, Mayo staff, and outside collaborators. Participates independently, or as part of a project group, in project and equipment design and fabrication. Performs and troubleshoots data collection and analysis using standard techniques, and designs new methods for collection and analysis. Independently interprets data; authors and co-authors grant proposals, papers and presentations. Leads multiple projects. Trains and oversees work of residents/fellows/other lab personnel. Reviews literature and customizes techniques for lab applica
tions. Oversees all administrative tasks required to manage the laboratory on a day to day basis. Responsible for upkeep of laboratory finances and budgets. Coordinates hiring and performance management. Regularly presides over staff and management meetings. Organizes reports and general public relations for the laboratory. Administrative duties comprise 50% of the full time duties.

Qualifications: Requires a bachelor's degree in an engineering or health related field (physical therapy, kinesiology, exercise science, etc.); a master's degree or doctoral degree in a mechanically-inclined field is strongly preferred. Management experience is ideal. Research experience should be demonstrated in the focus areas of the Motion Analysis Lab. Additional experience should be noted in several of the following areas: equipment design, orthopedics/anatomy, statistical analysis, imaging analysis, computer programming (Matlab, LabView, and Solid Works). Requires ability to work independently and with a variety of people at all levels both within and outside of the institution. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required. Must demonstrate multitasking, organizational, and team-building skills, and should serve as an appropriate mentor when needed. Must prove tactful when working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team. Must be ab
le to apply analytical and problem-solving methodologies, and frequently seek continuous improvement of technological projects.
