Research Engineer Position – Novel Medical Device Design

An opportunity exists for a research engineer (ideally at Ph.D. level) in Biomedical Engineering at Dublin City University working on the development of a novel arthroscopic surgical device.

The position is available for an initial period of twelve months, and involves close collaboration with clinicians affiliated with Cappagh National Orthopaedic hospital. The position will be based in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Dublin City University.

The position will involve:

• design of prototype instruments in consultation with end users
• analysis of performance using experimental methods and finite element analysis
• competitive analysis versus existing commercial products
• identification of commercial and intellectual property opportunities
• planning of future phases of development in conjunction with partners

The ideal candidate will have at least four years postgraduate research experience in mechanical, mechatronic or biomedical engineering, ideally to Ph.D. level.

Salary: €35,336 p.a.

This position is funded through the Proof of Concept phase of the Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation fund.
