PhD STIPEND
Prevention of Work-Related Musculo-Skeletal Disorders via Intelligent Biofeedback

At the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Medicine, Department of Health Science and Technology a position as PhD fellow (position no. 562/06-21-26844) is open for appointment from 1 November 2006 or as soon after as possible.

The overall goal of the PhD project is to develop and test a new portable intelligent biofeedback system aiming at changing muscle synergies to introduce more flexibility in the biomechanical solutions during computer work. Furthermore, the project focuses on gender differences with respect to work-related musculo-skeletal disorders.

Candidates should preferably have a background in biomedical engineering and/or physiology with some experience in human experiments.

The PhD stipend is available within the general study programme "Biomedical Science and Engineering".

The Ph.D. stipend is co-funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, The National Institute of Occupational Health and the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Medicine. PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree.

PhD stipends normally have a duration of three years and it is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that enrolment as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Engineering and Science takes place with reference to completion of a research education according to the regulations of the Ministerial Order No. 114 of 8 March 2002 about the PhD degree. According to the Ministerial Order the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.

The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the committee the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science will make a decision for allocating the stipend.
