Hellenic Society of Biomechanics

Dear Colleagues
It is my great pleasure to announce the formation of the Hellenic Society of
Biomechanics.

The Hellenic Society of Biomechanics (Elliniki Eteria
Embiomixanikis-ELEMBIO) was formed officially last year in order to promote
and develop further the field of Biomechanics in Greece. The main aims of
the Society are:
1. To encourage, promote, support and develop further Biomechanics
research and disseminate relevant knowledge in Greece
2. To promote and support scientific links between Greek scientists in
Greece and abroad working in the broad scientific field of Biomechanics
3. To organise scientific conferences, seminars and workshops for the
dissemination of current biomechanical knowledge, practices and standards
4. To publish relevant scientific material
5. To form, promote and encourage the adoption of position statements
related to scientific issues in Biomechanics
6. To encourage and support scientific links and affiliate society
status with other national, European and International Societies of
Biomechanics and related disciplines.

The Hellenic Society of Biomechanics had a founding meeting in Thessaloniki,
Greece in April 2004 and was formed officially in 2005 by 33 Founding
Members working in Biomechanics in Greece, Europe and USA and it currently
has over 70 full members. We had a very successful first Scientific Congress
and General Assembly in April 2006 at the University of Thessaly in Trikala,
Greece with over 120 delegates. The first elected Governing Council for the
next 2 years is:

President: Vasilios Baltzopoulos (MMU Cheshire, UK)
Vice-President: Dimosthenis Mavrilas (University of Patras,
GR)
Secretary: Elisavet Rousanoglou (University of Athens, GR)
Treasurer: Giannis Giakas (Univeristy of Thessaly, Trikala,
GR)
Member: Nikolaos Stergiopoulos (EPFL, Lausanne, CH)

The Society has an electronic discussion list so members can post messages
to the list on GSB@volos.uth.gr or contact the admin officers at
elembio@pe.uth.gr

The Hellenic Society of Biomechanics is organising its second Scientific
Congress in Ancient Olympia on the Peloponesse in Southern Greece (in the
facilities of the Greek Olympic Committee) at the beginning of May 2007
(Friday 4, Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 May 2007).

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you to participate in our
Congress next May on this splendid, special place on Earth and to all of our
Greek colleagues to join ELEMBIO and participate actively in its functions.

Further scientific programme, participation and travelling details for the
2007 Congress will follow very soon from the organisers Elisavet Rousanogou,
Dimosthenis Mavrilas and their team.

With best wishes

On behalf of the Governing Council
Vasilios Baltzopoulos
