POSITION: Laboratory Research Technician

The Orthopaedic Mechanobiology Laboratory at the University of Maryland,
College Park is seeking an intellectual and self-motivated individual to
assist in orthopaedic biomechanics research and oversee general laboratory

Primary responsibilities will be performing survival surgery in rodents;
assisting in sterile cell and tissue culture procedures; collecting and
preparing tissue specimens for biomechanical testing; maintaining research
records and lab inventories; and performing general housekeeping duties in
the laboratory.

In addition, a significant portion of laboratory activities will be
interfacing with surgeons, fellows, residents, and students from the
Department of Orthopaedics in the University of Maryland, School of Medicine
for cadaveric joint biomechanics studies. Specific tasks associated with
these include fixture design, experimental design, and performing
biomechanical tests of human cadaveric joints.

The research technician may also be assigned other tasks as needed.

We will be accepting applications from individuals with a Bachelor's or
Master's degree in mechanical engineering, bioengineering, biomedical
engineering, or related field, with experience working in a laboratory
setting. A strong background in physiology, biology, and/or biochemistry is
desired. Experience or willingness to work with rodents is a plus. The
ideal candidate will:
- have good oral and written communication skills,
- possess independent thought and judgement,
- be a careful, organized, and highly focused individual,
- demonstrate leadership in the supervision of undergraduate assistants,
- be able to work well with others in a team environment.
