Faculty of Engineering

Department of Bioengineering

Head of Department and Chair(s)

Salary - To attract the best candidates

We are seeking to appoint two outstanding Chairs, one of whom will also be appointed as Head of Department, to our expanding Department of Bioengineering. The appointees will provide academic leadership and management and have the vision and drive to ensure the Department remains at the forefront of the Bioengineering field. The successful candidates will each have a significant research portfolio, an international reputation and the ability to build upon the existing opportunities for research interactions.

Applicants should be committed to excellence in education and should possess qualities and skills that foster co-operation and collaboration locally, nationally and internationally.

Following the retirements of two members of staff, it is likely that one of the appointments will be in the area of biofluids or soft tissue mechanics.

The Bioengineering Department is part of the Faculty of Engineering - the UK engineering school with the largest number of academic staff in the 5* category. The environment at Imperial College is one which encourages and rewards interdepartmental and interfaculty collaboration. The Department has strong interdisciplinary links with the new Institute of Biomedical Engineering, the London Centre for Nanotechnology, and the UK Energy Research Centre, as well as with the Faculties of Natural Sciences, Medicine and Business School.

The Department of Bioengineering applies engineering and physical science to a wide range of problems in medicine and biology. It has a long and prestigious history and was awarded a 5* rating in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise. Current research interests in the Department are diverse and can be explored via our website http://www.imperial.ac.uk/bioengineering

The Department has an active teaching programme at PhD, MSc and undergraduate levels. Teaching experience in a relevant field is consequently highly desirable.

Application forms can be obtained by clicking below
