View Full Version : PhD position Biomechanics - Modeling of CP gait

10-17-2006, 08:03 PM
In the research project titled 'Computational Modeling of Crouch Gait in
Children with Cerebral Palsy' starting 11/2006 a PhD position is
available that will focus mainly on the computational aspects of the
project. The aim is to estimate the time histories of leg-muscle forces
for healthy and CP children and to draw conclusions regarding functions
of individual lower-limb muscles during normal and crouched gait.

Requirements: Candidates should possess a Master's Degree in Mechanical
Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
Preliminary experience in computational biomechanics and
Fortran/C/Matlab programming will be considered favorably.

The PhD students will be co-supervised for their theses by Prof.
Gfoehler, Vienna, and Prof. Pandy, Melbourne.

The project is a joint project of the Institute of Engineering Design
and Logistics Engineering, Vienna University of Technology (Prof. Margit
Gfoehler), the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, University of Melbourne
(Prof. Marcus Pandy) and the Orthopedic Hospital Speising, Vienna (Ing.
Mag. Andreas Kranzl, Dr. Walter Strobl).

The project is funded by the Austrian Research Foundation FWF, salary
for the PhD students is 30.150 Euro/year total including taxes,
insurance etc.

Interested candidates should send their application in English including
a complete CV and an accompanying letter detailing the candidate's
motivations, his or her previous experience, and relevant skills,
preferably by email to: margit.gfoehler@tuwien.ac.at.
