Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Sobell Department of Motor Neuroscience and Movement Disorders

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join Dr Brian Dayís
Whole-body Sensorimotor Control Group, focussed on neural processes that
control human movement and balance and their disorders resulting from damage
to the central nervous system.

The project is concerned with brain processes that spatially transform
sensory information from a sense organís native reference frame into an
action-based reference frame. This will involve studying healthy subjects
and patients with specific brain lesions using electrical and mechanical
vestibular stimulation techniques to produce virtual head motions. The
laboratory is equipped with 3D motion capture systems, 6-axis force sensors,
EMG/EEG systems and a telemetric gaze monitor. Applicants should have a
strong background in motor control. Experience working with patients and
motion analysis systems will be advantageous.

The post is funded by the Medical Research Council and will be available for
3 years from January 2007, subject to a 9 month probationary period.
Starting salary on UCL grade 7, £25,633 to £31,525 plus £2,472 London
Allowance, superannuable.

Further details should be obtained from Lindsay Gilchrist, Personnel
Administrator, Institute of Neurology, The National Hospital for Neurology &
Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London WC1N 3BG (tel: 020 7676 2191; email
personnel@ion.ucl.ac.uk). Closing date for applications: 8 December 2006.
