View Full Version : Resting Lengths of Spinal ligaments

Dear All,

I am developing a biomechanical model of L4-L5 motion segment to
simulate spinal manipulation. To quantify ligament forces based on
elongation of the ligaments, the resting lengths need to be defined. For
instance, ligamentum flavum was reported to have a pre-stain of 10-15%
at the neutral spine position (Nachemson and Evans, 1968). However, the
similar information of other spinal ligaments appears to be missing in
the literature. Does anyone in the list know any sources describing the
resting lengths of the following ligaments: Anterior longitudinal
ligament; Posterior longitudinal ligament; Capsular ligaments;
Intertransverse ligaments; Interspinous ligament; and Supraspinous
ligament.

Thanks in advance for your help on this matter.

Sincerely,
