View Full Version : Inquiry: Lower limb mechanics - muscle forces and moment arms

02-26-2007, 06:23 AM
I am on a undergraduate senior design team which is building a robot that pedals a stationary exercise bike. This model includes 3 monoarticulate pairs of muscle groups (controlling flexion/extension of hip, knee, and ankle joints).

We have been unable to find data in the literature on the relative force exerted by each of the muscle groups during cycling (i.e. the force of hip flexors compared to the force of plantar flexors).

We are also looking for the effective moment arm (with respect to the femur) for hip flexion and extension.

Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
