PhD Studentship in Biomechanics of Bowling

Departments of Bioengineering and Mechanical Engineering

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship funded by Marylebone
Cricket Club. MCC acts as custodian of the laws of the game of cricket
and has a keen drive to investigate the impact of technology on the Laws
of Cricket. In particular the research will focus on the biomechanics of

Aside from having an interest in engineering applied to sports, the
applicant should have a good honours degree in engineering with a good
materials science component.

The project will be jointly supervised by Dr Anthony Bull

) of the Bioengineering
Department and Dr John Dear (www.imperial.ac.uk/people/j.dear

) of the Mechanical
Engineering Department. These departments have both received the highest
research rating (5*) in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise.

A stipend and fees will be awarded. Students must satisfy the
eligibility criteria, including UK or EU residence for three or more
