Postdoctoral opportunity in Cardiovascular Biomechanics and Tissue
Growth/Remodelling in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.

This project is funded by an innovation Partnership grant awarded to Dublin
City University and Trinity College Dublin from Enterprise Ireland and
Medtronic Vascular, Galway, Ireland.

Drug-eluting stents have emerged in recent years to overcome the long-term
limitation of stents, namely in-stent restenosis. Results from clinical
studies have shown that the success of intravascular stents is highly
dependent on both the stent design and the anti-restenosis drug coating
applied to the stent.

Numerical modelling techniques can be used to optimise cardiovascular stent
designs and the objective of this project is to develop a numerical
preclinical testing tool that can be used to improve existing stent designs
and/or develop new designs that have a low propensity for restenosis by
numerically modelling the process of in-stent restenosis.

This is a joint project between Dublin City University and Trinity College
Dublin, however, the candidate will be located in Trinity College Dublin
under the direct supervision of Prof. Patrick Prendergast, see
http://www.tcd.ie/bioengineering/ for further details.

Suitable candidates for this position include individuals with a PhD in
Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mechanics or a related
discipline, with experience in numerical modelling (preferably ABAQUS) and a
keen interest and/or experience in tissue remodelling/growth and medical
device design.

Salary will be competitive and dependent upon experience. The fellowship is
offered for a period of one year with the possibility of renewal. The
candidate is expected to start as soon as possible.

Applicants should send a cover letter stating their suitability for the
position, together with a full CV including a list of publications and
contact details of referees, by email to Dr. Tríona Lally at the address
below.
