During the 8th biennial Footwear Biomechanics Symposium to be held in Taipei Taiwan from the 27th through the 29th June 2007 at the National Yang University Taipei, we have arranged a special tutorial lectured by Prof. Ewald Hennig ( University Duisburg-Essen, Germany) and Prof. Julie Steele (University of Wollongong, Australia).

Title of Tutorial:

The Human Foot: From Early Child- to Adulthood


1. Development of gait and changes in foot structure and limb alignment in toddlers and young school children: Differences between boys and girls (Ewald)

2. The effect of body weight and obesity in children on foot structure and function (Julie)

3. The adult foot: A gender comparison of foot anatomy (Julie) and foot function (Ewald)

4. The effect of obesity in women and men on:

a) Pressure distribution (Ewald, Julie)

b) Fat pad thickness (Ewald, Julie)

5. Perception of touch and vibration in the adult foot:

a) foot mapping of sensation across the plantar and dorsal surfaces of the foot; sex differences (Ewald)

b) in obese subjects and patient groups (Parkinson - Ewald)

c) in obese children (Julie)
