I recently sat in a presentation at the 2007 Sensors Expo from a guy named John Tyson from Trilion Quality Systems. He reported on a 3D optical technique that could be used to provide advanced full-field measurements of deformation and strain without the need for additional instrumentation (strain gauges, etc.). I've never come across anything quite like this but was impressed by the approach and hope some of you may find this useful. If anything, I hope it fosters some discussion.

I would encourage anyone who does biomaterials research or who deals with stress/strain measurements to take a serious and critical look at this technique.
