Research Engineer / Associate Position

The ADAM Center and MoCap Consortium, under the Directorship of Shaw Bronner
PhD at Long Island University Brooklyn, are seeking a full time Research
Engineer / Associate.

The Research Engineer is responsible for: direct supervision of the daily
operations of the biomechanics laboratory, maintain and troubleshoot
laboratory equipment, coordinate and manage research activities, and to
ensure a positive learning environment for all individuals who may use the
facilities. This position requires an individual who can work independently
and collaborate with a team of faculty and students, assist in all aspects
of research (grant writing, manuscript development, collect and analyze
data), develop applications software (LabVIEW, MATLAB, etc.), and can
demonstrate working expertise in the operation of all pieces of equipment
including 3-D motion analysis systems, force platforms, electromyography, &
electrogoniometry. This position requires knowledge of preventive
maintenance and timely repair of all laboratory equipment and will require
some teaching responsibilities.

Qualifications:
1. Bacheloršs or Masteršs degree in mechanical, electrical or biomedical
engineering, or related field, with experience working in a laboratory
setting.
2. Working knowledge of major laboratory equipment, specifically Vicon
motion analysis systems, force platforms, electromyography,
electrogoniometry.
3. Computer application programming experience in MATLAB, Labview, C, and
other appropriate environments.
4. Experience in hardware maintenance, development, or custom equipment
design.
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to
create appropriate technical and user documentation. Must have excellent
people skills, and exhibit good listening and comprehension skills. Keeps
others adequately informed.
6. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
7. Ability to interact effectively in an interdisciplinary environment
(individuals with disabilities, engineers, therapists, students).

Other Considerations:
1. Demonstrated aptitude to learn new skills and quickly acquire procedural
knowledge.
2. Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a variety of people
at all levels both within and outside of the institution.
3. Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize tasks appropriately and
effectively to manage research expectations.
4. Demonstrated ability to provide guidance to others within technical area
Duties include:
1. Development of methodology and design of experiments and participation in
data collection sessions. Maintain a professional relationship with project
personnel.
2. Design and fabricate specialized fixtures for testing.
3. Create and maintain user manuals and documentation of software projects.
4. Program data acquisition and analysis software.
5. Maintain software and troubleshoot complicated software projects.
6. Provide advice and assistance to, and work cooperatively with researchers
in the lab.
7. Perform other related duties incidental to work describe herein.

This full-time position with benefits is a university support staff
