Position: Postdoctoral Position in Cell Mechanics and Tissue Engineering
Organization: University of Zurich
Location: Zurich, Switzerland
Deadline: 08-31-07

This postdoctoral appointment targets the development of novel optical-mechanical devices and techniques for the study of directed stem cell differentiation using a cell mechanics approach. Specific tasks involve: (1) design and implementation of devices for imparting quantified mechanical strains to cells in culture; (2) Experimental and computational investigations of mammalian stem cell migration and differentiation under the influence of chemical and mechanical stimuli.

Initial appointment will be one year, and extendable to a second year upon mutual interest. The position is based in the Mechanobiology Group at the Orthopedic Research Laboratory, University of Zurich. This interdisciplinary project will be performed in close collaboration with the Department of Chemical and Bioengineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich. Applications will be reviewed immediately until the position is filled.

Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, and/or biophysics. Prior experiences with finite element modeling, cell culture and mechanical device design present a distinct advantage.
