R&D Positions in Biomechanics and Implant Development

The Institute of Orthopedic Research and Education (www.iore.net) in Houston, Texas has immediate openings for engineers interested in contributing to exciting new advances in Orthopedic Biomechanics. IORE consists of three separate research facilities specializing in Hip, Knee, and Sports Medicine
research in the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world. These laboratories are dedicated to studying the function of human joints, and the development of innovative treatments for joint disease. As part of these efforts, IORE is internationally active in the design and
evaluation of new designs of total joint replacements and related surgical instrumentation.

The successful applicant will work directly with surgeons on diverse and challenging projects using advanced technologies. Areas of focus include simulation of prosthetic function during functional activities, 3D visualization of joint motion before and after total hip or knee replacement, and
kinematic analysis of surgical procedures. Many exciting experimental and computer-based techniques are available for use in all R&D work. Opportunities exist for travel for all personnel in presenting research and collaborating on international research teams.

Professional duties will include the:

* Design and development of custom testing devices, surgical instrumentation and prototype implants.
* Development of computer visualization and simulation software routines.
* Experimental and theoretical research studies in biomechanics and/or biomaterials.
* Development of experimental testing devices, including hardware and software.
* Collaboration with surgeons, residents, and engineers in performing research studies.


* A bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical/biomedical engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
* Working knowledge and experience with mechanical equipment and electronics is highly advantageous.
* Knowledge and experience in Matlab programming (or equivalent application) is preferred
* Knowledge and experience in research design and analysis is preferred.
* Enthusiasm for work in R&D and an interest in orthopedic biomechanics is essential.
* US citizenship, permanent residence, or a valid work visa is required
