Assistant Professor Position in Biomechanics
Department of Kinesiology

The Position: The Department of Kinesiology at California State
University, Chico announces a tenure-track position as an Assistant
Professor in Biomechanics beginning August 2008.

As a university that educates students of various ethnic and cultural
backgrounds, we value a diverse faculty and staff. CSU, Chico welcomes

Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree with a specialization in
Biomechanics or a closely related field. Candidates nearing completion
of the doctorate may be considered. Ability to teach a variety of
undergraduate and graduate courses in Biomechanics. Evidence of
research and publication commensurate with academic experience.
Knowledge and application of instructional technology.

Preferred/Desirable Qualifications: Evidence of or potential for
successful teaching in Biomechanics. Experience or interest in teaching
qualitative and applied Biomechanics. Evidence of a current scholarly
agenda. Experience in or potential for applying scholarly interests to
practical settings. Experience in or potential for working with
software, hardware and equipment appropriate for graduate instruction in
Biomechanics. Participation in relevant professional organizations.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with an ethnically and
culturally diverse campus community. Experience or interest in
acquiring and administering grants.

Responsibilities: This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in
the areas of teaching, scholarship and service. These include teaching
undergraduate and graduate courses in Biomechanics and related areas;
developing an area of scholarship leading to publications and
presentations; advising undergraduate and graduate students and serving
on master's committees; engaging in faculty governance and serving on
department/university committees; and working cooperatively with faculty
and contributing to the goals of the department/university.

Teaching assignments are dependent upon the needs of the Department and
the background of the individual.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications, experience, and rank.

The Department: The Department of Kinesiology seeks to be a national
leader in communicating and creating knowledge about physical activity
to enhance the quality of life for all. We are a learning community of
17 full-time faculty, numerous part-time faculty, and students. Nearly
500 students major in Physical Education Teacher Education, Exercise
Physiology, Movement Studies, or pursue a master's degree. Department
faculty hold national and international leadership positions and are
known for excellence in teaching and applied research as well as
professional service. The department has numerous labs and classrooms
in the recently constructed Yolo Hall.
