The Department of Health, Exercise and Sports Sciences at Texas Tech
University invites applications and nominations for the position of
Department Chairperson to begin September 1, 2008. Credentials should be
appropriate for a tenured appointment at the associate or full professor
rank, and include an earned doctorate in a field befitting the
department's disciplines, identity and mission. Area of research
specialization is open. The successful applicant will demonstrate the
ability to provide strong academic, administrative, research and
professional leadership to a diverse faculty and student community. The
chairperson reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

The department offers BS and MS degrees, and participates in
collaborative PhD programs. The department enrolls over 1,000
undergraduates in programs of Exercise and Sport Sciences (Physical
Education/Teacher Education, Exercise and Health Promotion, Exercise
Sciences and Sport Studies), and Health (School Health and Community
Health). Approximately 60 graduate students are enrolled in two Master's
degree programs of Exercise and Sport Sciences, and Sports Health. The
department also participates in collaborative Ph.D. degree programs in
physiology (with the Department of Physiology, Texas Tech Health
Sciences Center), curriculum and instruction (with the Department of
Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education), and a concentration
in sport and exercise psychology (with the Department of Educational
Psychology and Leadership, College of Education). Texas Tech University
is a large state-supported institution located in Lubbock, Texas, a
center of cultural, commercial, medical, and professional services. In
