Post-doctoral Research Opportunity in BioMEMS/Bioengineering/Drug Delivery

A multidisciplinary research project team of UBC engineers and
pharmaceutical scientists is focused on developing a
Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS)-based drug delivery device. A
post-doctoral researcher is needed to participate in this
collaborative project of the Department of Mechanical Engineering,
Department of Electrical Engineering, and Faculty of Pharmaceutical
Sciences. Current activities in this research project include
micro/nano fabrication of polymer-based MEMS devices; drug/MEMS device
integration; drug release experiments; ultrasound/electromagnetic
instrumentation; and integration of MEMS devices with electronics. The
postdoctoral fellow will also be mentoring and working with graduate
students to attain project milestones.

Given the inter-disciplinary nature of the project, applicants with a
background in bioengineering and/or pharmaceutics/drug delivery who
are interested in expanding/applying their knowledge into
MEMS/BioMEMS/Nano-drug delivery research are encouraged to apply. The
applicants are expected to have either a background knowledge or to be
highly motivated to learn micro/nano fabrication methods.

Candidates should also have strong communication skills and excellent
interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently as well as
in a team. The research results on these themes will be submitted for
publication on a regular basis to prominent peer-reviewed journals and
will be presented in international conferences by the post-doctoral
fellow and/or graduate students.

The period of the appointment is for one year with the potential to be
extended to two years (or more depending upon the availability of
funds). The start date of the appointment is as early as January 2008.
Interested applicants should have (or be able to quickly obtain) the
right to travel and work as a postdoctoral researcher in Canada.

Those who are interested in the position, please visit our web site
(www.mina.ubc.ca), and contact Dr. Mu Chiao (muchiao@mech.ubc.ca) for
more information, and/or E-mail him a CV with a complete publication
record and list of at least three referees.
