Hello,

Below I am readvertising a postdoc replacement post emphasizing 3D computer
modelling in SIMM/OpenSim. As our lab is applying for funds for additional
postdocs in related areas, even though it is only a 9month post it is a good
opportunity to "get your foot in the door" for longer-term future postdocs
in our lab, or develop fellowship applications as we are keen to recruit new
research fellows. (And it will ultimately result in some reasonably
high-impact publications) Human biomechanics researchers, especially
engineers, are encouraged to apply, as are international researchers
(although be aware that these need work permits which will involve delay in
starting the post).

The Royal Veterinary College
University of London

Postdoctoral Researcher

Applications are invited for a 9 month position for an enthusiastic
biologist to work on a BBSRC-funded Animal Sciences grant to study how
muscle, bone and tendon strength influence speed and gait in elephants. The
chief role of the researcher is to use experimentally-measured kinetics and
kinematics (inverse dynamics) to construct and validate 3D musculoskeletal
computer simulations that test how tissue strengths constrain speed/gait.

Expertise in all techniques is not essential but some relevant experience is
desirable; expertise in researching either inverse dynamics-based modelling
of locomotion or computer simulation of musculoskeletal mechanics is
essential. The post is based in the world class Structure and Motion
Laboratory at our Hawkshead Campus near Potters Bar, Hertfordshire (itself
near London). The post is to replace the current postdoc, who has begun a
Lecturership in London but will continue actively collaborating on the
project.

Starting salary will be 25,762 per annum plus 2,323 London Allowance per
annum.

To make informal enquiries about the post, please contact Dr. John
