Recently I've been studying what is normal motion between the tibia and fibula in plantar and dorsiflexion.. Some authorities state there is essentially no motion between the two. Kapanji states that the fibula rotates medially in dorsiflexion to allow the talus to move back, and laterally in plantar flexion to allow it to move to the fromt of thre ankle. I have read in Gorman and others that both bones respond in the opposite pattern to this I'm wondering if the apparent inconsistency may have to do with different (e.g., proximal versus distal) points of reference -also whether load versus supine assessment makes a diffeence. Does anyone have light to shed on this, or know of good studies?
