Dear Collegues,
every year our institution makes available to foreign residents four
fellowships to improve their knowldege on orthopaedic research and clinical
practise. The candidates must be medical doctors or MS in biomedical,
biomechanical or mechanical engineering. The fellowships span from November to
October of the following year; the student guested in our Lab will be involved
in a running project relative to in vitro functional evaluation of total hip
replacements and related topics.

FELLOWSHIP REGULATIONS FOR FOREIGN RESIDENTS AT RIZZOLI ORTHOPAEDIC INSTITUTES

Introduction
The Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institutes offer Fellowships for foreign biomedical
engineering and medical graduates who wish to improve their knowledge in
orthopaedics.
The Fellowship gives no right to be admitted as Resident to the Schools of
Specialization existing in the Institute.
The places available are four (4) for a maximum duration of the academic year
(November 1st - October 31st) or fractions of it. The stay cannot be prolonged
for more than one year.

Art. 1 - ADMISSION
The admission for Foreign Graduates is decided by the Board of Administration
on proposal from the Technical-Scientific Committee.
The application must be sent to the President of the Istituti Ortopedici
Rizzoli within April 30th of the academic year one wishes to attend.
The application must include the following information:
- Full name (last, first and middle names)
- Complete address (possibly fax number)
- Nationality
- Date and place of birth
- Intended period and length
- Area of interest
- School Degree
The application must also include:
- A letter of presentation from the government office or the Head of Institute
or Department where one is working.
- A complete curriculum vitae (including academic titles, certifications, list
of publications, etc).
- An authentic copy of the School Degree (with grades, including the
final graduation grade).
- Proof of a good knowledge of English or Italian.
Admission will be decided on the basis of a grading established by a Committee
formed by:
- the President of the Istituti Ortopedici Rizzoli or a designed member of the
Board of Administration
- the Scientific Director
- two members of the Technical-Scientific Committee.

Art. 2 - LENGTH OF STAY
The length of stay is for an academic year or fractions not shorter than 3
months.

Art. 3 - BEHAVIOUR DURING THE STAY
Fellows are asked to behave correctly, both morally and professionally. They
are by no means to give any form of medical assistance.
Attendance is revised by the Head of Department. At the end of the stay, the
reviser sends a short evaluation of the Fellow's activity to the
Technical-Scientific Committee, on their proposal the Administration will
deliver the attendance certificate.

Art. 4 - ORGANIZATION
The Institute offers free room and board, but does not pay for any other
expenses. The Foreign Fellow will be invited to partecipate to patient care
and research under the guidance of the Head of Department.
For attendance, the Administration will take care of all insurance coverage
from the Fellows.

Art. 5 - CESSATION OF FELLOWSHIP
The Fellowship may cease as follows:
- on a written request from the applicant to the Rizzoli Institute President,
the Medical Director and the Scientific Director;
- at the end of the designated period as specified in Art. 2;
- for disciplinary measures at the Administration's discretion.
