FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT
AND CALL FOR PAPERS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

THIRD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
ON 3-D ANALYSIS OF HUMAN MOVEMENT

July 5th to 8th, 1994, Stockholm, SWEDEN

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The International Symposium on 3-D Analysis of Human Movement is a
scientific and technical forum for investigators of human motion, whether
their work is applied to the study of musculo-skeletal disability or
disease, sport and elite performances, or basic studies of biomechanics.
By generating further communication and contact between investigators in
diverse areas, this meeting encourages discussions to cross boundaries
between scientific disciplines and specialties. The symposium will be
directed at sharing information and results relating to philosophies for
solving problems of measurement and analysis, rather than only delivering
recent research study findings.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM
The conference is spanned over three days. There will be keynote speakers
from the field of computer vision, virtual reality and applied
biomechanics in addition to oral presentations. Additional papers will be
accepted in the form of poster presentation and a Hyde Park Speakers'
Corner is also planned.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Computer vision: Dr Armin Gruen, ETH Zurich
Virtual reality: Dr Georges Singer, Montreal
Applied biomechanics: Dr Alex Pentland, Boston

Hyde Park Speaker's corner:
The gait lab: Where do we stand, where do we need to go and what's the use?

THEMES
Data capture: New instrumentation, and specific hardware, accuracy and
precision of various reconstruction techniques, interpolation and
calibration, lens distortion correction, etc.
Joint motion: Location of markers, relation between external reference
markers and joint movements, definition of local and global coordinate
systems.
Modeling: 3-D kinematic and kinetic/dynamic joint models, finite element
techniques, estimation of internal forces, model validation and
sensitivity analysis.
3-D representation: Computer aided graphic techniques, animations,
simulation, and virtual reality applied to human movement.
3-D applications and interpretation: 3-D variables used in the analysis
of human movement and their relation to conventional 2-D parameters.

SUBMISSION
The four-page manuscript is intended to be a complete mini-paper with
figures and references. Each submission is to represent original work
that has not been reported elsewhere. The paper may report significant
results of current pilot studies that may be leading to a journal
publication, and in this case we do not claim any copyright privileges.
All papers are to be up to FOUR 8 1/2" by 11" or A4 pages in length.
Title of paper, in capital letters, must be centered on the first page at
about 2 cm from the top. The typeface should be 10 point Times or
equivalent and single spaced. Names of authors and co-authors,
affiliation and address should be beneath each name, leaving a line in
between. The text is to be written at about 7 cm from the top of the
first page and 2.5 cm on the others. It must be within two columns 8 cm
wide and separated by a 1.5 cm space leaving an equal margin on each
side. Indent the beginning of each paragraph by 4 spaces. Text must be
justified to use maximum column width. and should end 2.5 cm from the
bottom. Left justify and underline each heading in the column and use
capital letters with one space above each heading. Figures may be full
width if necessary. SI units are to be used. The manuscript will be
reproduced exactly as submitted so new black ribbon or laser quality are
best.
Send the original and THREE copies of the manuscript to Dr Arne Lundberg,
Department of Orthopaedics, Karolinska Institut
Karolinska Institute, Huddinge University Hospital, S-141 86 Huddinge,
Sweden. It must be postmarked before March 15th, 1994. The manuscript will
be published in the proceedings of the symposium.

TECHNICAL PROGRAM
As a complement to the scientific program, manufacturers of data
capture systems will be given time during the meeting to inform the
participants about their products. THERE WILL BE NO EXHIBITS.

SOCIAL PROGRAM
Tuesday, July 5: Welcoming reception at the Hasselbacken Conference
Center near the Skansen outdoor museum and the Wasa museum
Wednesday, July 6: Smorgasbord at the Stallmastargarden restaurant
Thursday, July 7: Banquet at the Wasa Museum
Friday, July 8: Optional archipelago cruise.

TRAVEL INFORMATION
>From Arlanda International Airport, we suggest a fixed price taxi which
at the present is about USD 32 to the Hasselbacken Conference Center.
Remember to confirm the price with the driver. In early July the weather
is usually fair, although rain is not unusual. Otherwise, humidity is
normally low. The temperature ranges fom a low of approximately 10 C
(night temperature) to a high of approximately 30 C.

MEETING REGISTRATION FEE
The fee for the Third International Symposium on 3-D Analysis of Human
Movement is USD 390.00 prior to May 15th 1994 and USD 450.00 afterwards.
The registration fee includes meeting material and all scientific
activities plus welcoming reception, Wednesday night dinner and banquet
(Thursday). Checks, money orders or bank drafts in USD (no credit cards)
are to be made payable to the International Symposium on 3-D Analysis of
Human Movement and mailed to Dr Arne Lundberg.

ACCOMMODATION FEES
At the Hasselbacken Conference Center, the rooms are: for single
occupancy SEK 580 (about USD 80) and for double occupancy SEK 780 (about
USD 100). A block of rooms has been reserved for the symposium. Room
reservations should be made on the enclosed form, and payment made
directly to the Hasselbacken Conference Center.

CANCELLATION POLICY
All cancellations received by June 1st 1994, will be assessed a USD 75.00
non-refundable charge. After this date there will be NO REFUNDS.
