Seeking a Biomechanist to support the Center for Performance and
Clinical Research (CPCR) at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC),
Washington, DC. The CPCR will provide injured service members with
advanced technology to quantify and interpret movement impairments.
Personnel will provide clinical gait analyses used for answering
specific rehabilitation questions, and conduct research to advance
clinical rehabilitation sciences associated with injured military
members. The CPCR is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team in order to
provide the highest clinical rehabilitation care while at the same time
conducting quality research. The qualified candidate must: 1) maintain
and troubleshoot all CPCR instrumentation (including but not limited to:
Vicon motion capture system; AMTI forceplates and instrumented
treadmill; Cosmed metabolic system; CAREN system and associated
hardware/software), 2) perform data collection; processing; and
interpretation of clinical patient/research subjects' data, 3) initiate
and assist with research grant and protocol writing in line with the
mission of the CPCR, 4) initiate and assist with publication of research
findings in conference proceedings and peer reviewed journals, 5)
provide technical assistance to staff, 6) assist with preparation of
annual progress reports, 7) provide lectures and education of CPCR
technologies and practices to other WRAMC departments and external
facilities as appropriate, and tours of the CPCR. The work involves a
considerable amount of variety and complexity of data, information,
resources, regulations, sources and technical requirements.

REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWEDGE: Preference will be given to a candidate that
has earned a Master's degree from an accredited institution and have
expertise in musculoskeletal biomechanics assessment. Experience in
protocol development and research grant writing, as well as the current
state of the science applicable to the injured military personnel at
WRAMC is critical to the mission of the CPCR. Expertise using Vicon
Motion Systems optical motion capture technology including
Workstation/Nexus, Bodybuilder, and Polygon is necessary. Familiarity
with metabolic analysis, force platforms, electromyography, is highly

SCOPE AND EFFECT: The Biomechanist must ensure the accurate data
collection, data entry, and reporting of motion analysis or other
physical performance assessment results in order to facilitate the
successful completion of research projects and clinical evaluations.
The applicant will also participate in grant and protocol development in
addition to manuscript completion and submission.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical activity is mostly sedentary but may
require some lifting of equipment.

CITIZENSHIP: U.S. citizen or authorization to work in U.S.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is that of clinical and research
motion analysis laboratory located in a teaching and research hospital.
Work is performed in an office setting with adequate lighting, heat and
air conditioning.
