My client, a major medical device manufacturer, has an exciting new
opportunity available. Please read the description below to see if this
your skills and experience.

POSITION AVAILABLE: Project Engineer, Navigation

The Project Engineer, Navigation is responsible for processing medical
images and custom instrument guide creation in support of pre-operative navigation
projects. The individual is also responsible for the supervision and review
of pre-operative navigation activities conducted by the navigation
engineering team and must maintain professional working relationships with technical
consultants, patent attorneys, vendors, surgeon-inventors and all individuals
within the organization.

MS/PhD Mechanical Engineering preferred, other engineering degrees
considered with demonstration of other basic skills outlined below. Need to have 5 -
9 years experience in design and development with demonstrated progressive
increases in project leadership and management. Medical device industry
experience required and orthopaedic experience preferred. The individual will have
knowledge of lower limb anatomy and biomechanics. Previous experience in
joint replacement instrument design is desirable. Candidate must possess
extensive CAD knowledge and aptitude, strong organizational skills and familiarity
with computer systems. This individual must have the ability to work well in
a cross-functional team environment and lead a team of engineers through
design and development. Strong written and oral communication skills are
necessary to support surgeon communication.

1 - Processing of medical images (CT/MRI) into solid CAD models
2 - Oversight and review of image processing by engineering team
3 - Design of patient specific custom instruments to replicate alignment
4 - Critical review and approval of engineering team instrument designs
5 - Communication of custom design with surgeon-clients
6 - Surveillance and tracking of surgeon feedback
7 - Review and development of potential project wide guide design changes
that improve manufacturability, accuracy, cost or customer approval
8 - Direct involvement in abnormal alignment cases resulting from trauma,
deformity, or disease
9 - Supervision of above activities performed by engineering team

This individual should have the ability to evaluate problems related to
biomechanics, anatomy and implant alignment using sound engineering principles
and scientific methods. This position will be responsible for the immediate
oversight of the navigation engineering design team and accountable directly to
