Finsbury Orthopaedics was established in 1978. Bill Day and Mike Tuke worked together during the 1970s in the Biomechanics Unit at Imperial College London. With the guidance of Professor Alan Swanson and Professor Michael Freeman, Finsbury was launched and has continued to grow and develop from its roots as a small self-funded company into one of the most successful British manufacturing companies to date. Finsbury has always been characterised by its forward thinking and innovative attitude, this was confirmed early on with the success of the Freeman Hip, the Nuffield Knee and early hip resurfacing collaborations. Since 1978 the company has grown extensively, now employing over 250 staff members from its head quarters in Leatherhead, Surrey.

Finsbury Orthopaedics are currently looking for a Senior Research and Development engineer.

Essential Qualification and experience:
- University engineering honours degree
- Demonstratable project management and problem solving skills
- Demonstratable Medical devices pre clinical verification activities experience

- PhD in biomedical / biomechanical engineering or related field
- Communication skills for team interaction
- Biological tissue handling / clinical experience

You will be asked to take responsibilities in the following activities:
* Designing, developing and testing new materials, devices and equipment for CE marking purposes
* Leading a research project to solve clinical problems. This may be very 'hands on' and practical.
* Participating in brain storming sessions for future research directions
* Liaising closely with medical professionals and engineering specialists
* Discussing and solving problems with manufacturing, quality, purchasing and marketing departments or outside bodies.
* Disseminating technical information
* Developing and maintaining collaborations with academic institutes and other companies.
* Investigating safety-related incidents.
