11-20-2008, 06:13 AM
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The Ohio State University
(www.mecheng.ohio-state.edu) invites applications from outstanding
individuals for two full-time faculty positions, one in dynamics of
materials and systems (position A) and the other in design and manufacturing
(position B). The anticipated start date is September 2009, but the search
will continue until the positions are filled.

Successful applicants for position A will complement existing strengths of
the department in dynamic systems and control, and will possess research
expertise in biological entities and/or engineered materials and systems.
Research specialization areas under consideration include (but are not
limited to) smart materials and structures, biological materials and
systems, and vehicle components. While candidates are primarily sought at
the assistant professor level, exceptionally qualified applicants at higher
ranks may be considered.

For position B, candidates are sought who apply fundamental principles of
design and manufacturing to bioengineering research and complement the
department's emerging strength in this area. Possible research
specializations include, but are not limited to, medical devices,
biosensors, orthopaedic bioengineering, rehabilitation engineering, and
technologies for tissue engineering. Candidates are sought at the assistant,
associate or full professor level, with the appointment made at the rank
commensurate with the applicant's experience.

For both positions, individuals with interdisciplinary research interests
synergistic with other academic units across campus such as the Department
of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Materials Science & Engineering, or
the College of Medicine are especially encouraged to apply.

Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in mechanical engineering or
a closely related field by the start date. The new faculty members will be
expected to teach core undergraduate courses in each candidate's discipline,
develop new graduate courses related to their research expertise, develop
and sustain active sponsored research programs, and become recognized
leaders in their research fields. Successful candidates at the senior level
will be expected to have commensurate records of active sponsored research
programs and demonstrated leadership experience.

Screening of applications will begin immediately and continue until the
positions are filled. Interested candidates should send a complete
curriculum vitae, 2 - 3 page statements of research and teaching goals, and
the names and addresses of four references to:
