Doctoral Research/Teaching Assistantship is available within the COOR
Laboratory at Virginia Commonwealth University

The Clinical Biomechanics, Orthopedic and Sports Outcomes Research (COOR)
laboratory (http://www.vcu.edu/pt/research/coor.html) directed by Lori
Michener, PhD, PT, ATC at Virginia Commonwealth University. The mission
of this lab is to examine the diagnosis and treatment outcomes of upper
quadrant disorders via clinical trials, and to elucidate the mechanisms of
shoulder disorders to facilitate the design of interventions to reduce
shoulder pain and restore the ability to perform activities and
participate at work, home and sports. The lab contains kinematic, EMG,
and diagnostic ultrasound equipment for examination of mechanisms and
outcomes of impairments related to musculoskeletal upper quadrant
disorders. The lab also contains workstations and a high performance
scanner for data input and database management of clinical trial data.

The lab is seeking a highly motivated student interested in research
consistent with the mission of the COOR Lab. Applicants must have a
minimum of a masters? degree in a health field (physical therapy, athletic
training, etc.), biomechanics or exercise science field, evidence of
strong oral and written communication skills, and interest and experience
in clinical research. Students would enroll in the interdisciplinary
doctoral program in Rehabilitation and Movement Sciences (

Assistantships are available, that include tuition and stipend which are 1
year in length and are renewable based on availability of funding.

matriculation for Fall 2009. Students interested in funding assistance
