Position Announcement - Gait & Footwear Biomechanist - KTP associate

24 month Fixed Term Contract

Fitflop Ltd and the University of Salford are seeking an ambitious individual to manage an exciting KTP project. The aim of this challenging project is to identify & understand the technical and clinical advantages of health & wellbeing footwear, resulting in the development of a wider product offering for the company. Based at Fitflop Ltd offices in Central London, you will manage the project supported by the experienced staff from both the company and this forward-thinking University.

FitFlop is a brand of health and wellbeing footwear utilizing a patent-pending micro wobbleboard technology in the mid sole of the shoe. Launched in May 2007 FitFlop health sandals are sold in premium retailers such as John Lewis in the UK; Macy's in the US and David Jones in Australia. Fitflop Ltd are now looking to further develop additional constructions of footwear that offer enhanced benefits in addition to those currently available in the original FitFlop product. The impact of the KTP will be to establish scientific studies to understand and explain how the current product works; quantify its benefits and target new development into commercially viable products. In addition to this exciting opportunity, you will also complete a Diploma in Management and there is a substantial budget for additional training and Higher degree registration.

With knowledge of a variety of biomechanical techniques for assessing gait and posture you should have a degree in Podiatry, Sports Science (Biomechanics) or related discipline. As KTP Associate, from your involvement in the programme, you will gain a deeper understanding of commercial project management, supplier, manufacturer and public / end user relations, materials concepts and marketing strategies. In addition, working in close contact with other skills and under commercial pressure the Associate will gain experience of being a key player within a dynamic business together with an awareness of strategic and operational decision making processes. You will also have responsibility for the successful delivery of the project which will develop you project management, time management and communication skills. Your accomplished team-player skills as well as your ability to work independently will also be thoroughly tested.
