Post-doctoral Fellow

University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC), Fort Worth, Texas

A postdoctoral research fellowship is available at the UNT Health Science
Center in the Physical Medicine Institute. We are searching for an
outstanding Post-doctoral research fellow to assist in the spinal
biomechanics involving both basic and applied research. This position will
prepare the selected candidate for a competitive career in an academic or
industrial research setting.

In the course of performing the duties of this position we anticipate that
the fellow will: 1) be exposed to state-of-the-art spine research 2) become
skilled in the design and implementation of experimental techniques, 3)
further develop scientific publishing skills by authoring and co-authoring
high quality journal articles, 4) have the opportunity to participate in a
number of ongoing interdisciplinary research projects related to spine
biomechanics currently underway and/or planned 5) encourage the individual's
own research interests and grant writing skills to support future work.

The PMI represents an area of focus and growth at the UNTHSC with its own,
recently initiated, MS and Ph.D. programs. It has strong collaborative
connections with Osteopathic Research Center, Public Health, Integrative
Physiology and Anatomy. The Osteopathic Heritage Foundation Physical
Medicine Core Research Lab has 6000 square feet lab space and
state-of-the-art equipments. In addition it also has several custom designed
special purpose spine testing devices.

The ideal candidate should be able to perform independent research and have
peer reviewed publications in spine field. Candidates should be familiar
with kinematic, kinetics, biomechanical modeling, EMG, accelerometry, motion
analysis, force plates, Lab View, experimentation, and use of statistical
(e.g. SAS, SPSS) and computational software packages (e.g. MatLab).
Additionally, the candidate should have excellent written and verbal
communication skills and be able to work independently as well as in a group
setting that involves interdisciplinary interactions with faculty, staff and
students. A Ph.D. in biomechanics, biomedical engineering, or mechanical
engineering is required. Strong candidates with a doctoral degree in a
closely related field will also be considered.
UNTHSC is located in Fort Worth, Texas which is routinely ranked as one of
the most livable communities in the United States, offering a wide variety
of cultural, recreational and sporting activities.

Applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, copies of two or
more representative publications, and contact information for two references
to Ms. Tiffany Murdoch at tmurdock@hsc.unt.edu.
