-------------------------------------------------------------

Two PhD studentships (BAT IIa/2) in Jena (germany) are open

for the DFG research project

“3D Finite element modeling of skeletal muscles: parameter determination, simulation and verification”

„Dreidimensionale Finite-Elemente-Modellierung von Skelettmuskeln: Parameteridentifikation, Simulation und Verifikation“

-------------------------------------------------------------

In the line of the above DFG (german sciene foundation) research project two PhD studentships are open at the institute of Sportscience (Jena/Germany, section: Science of Motion). The PhD studentships are limited to two years, with the option of prolongation.

The aim of the project is the experimental determination of muscle properties (small mammals), the measurement of 3D muscle architecture and the measurement of 3D muscle shape during contraction. These data will be used as input for a 3D muscle model (affiliated group).

Due to extensive experimental works the candidates (e.g. zoologist) should

- have experimental experience (preferably in muscle experiments)

- have biomechanical knowledge

- be interested in physiological questions concerning muscles.

Knowledge of german language is appreciated but not a prerequisite.

The candidate should have an above-average motivation and dedication. He

will co-operate with an interdisciplinary group of sport scientists, biologists, medics, physicists and engineers.

The muscle physiology group in Jena supervised by Prof. Reinhard Blickhan offers about 20 years of experience in muscle experiments and modelling.

Jena (www.jena.de ) is a beautiful city in the ‘green heart’ of germany with about 25 000 students. It is a successful scientific center of innovation with a vibrant cultural scene.
