PhD studentship in the Biomechanics Laboratories in the Dept of Applied, Science, Security & Resilience of CRANFIELD UNIVERSITY at Shrivenham, UK

A PhD studentship is currently available in our Department (13240 and fees at the home/EU rate, currently 3390) on bone biomechanics.

Theme: Mechanical properties of cancellous bone: structure/function relationships

The project aims to investigate the elastic and toughness properties of human cancellous bone and establish material, histomorphometric and physical factors that affect its behaviour.The PhD will be supported by all the resources available in the Biomechanics laboratories (http://www.cranfield.ac.uk/cds/materials/biomechanics.jsp ), our departmental facilities (http://www.cranfield.ac.uk/cds/materials/index.jsp ) and in our associated collaborating hospitals (http://www.gloshospitals.org.uk/specialties/specialties258372.html ).


This position will be available from 5 October 2009 and is suitable for those having or expected to obtain a first or upper second class honours degree in engineering, physical science, materials or closely related subjects.
