Research Assistant: Treating the Structural Deficiency of Spine with
Osteolytic Defect

The Spine Research Group in the Center for Advanced Orthopedic Studies
at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts, USA,
seeks an individual for a full time Research Assistant level position to
work on an NIH RO1 founded research.

Minimum Qualifications: B.S. or M.S. in Biomedical Engineering or in
Biomedical Sciences. Previous research experience in the
musculo-skeletal system or a related field is highly desirable. Ideal
candidate will be able to work independently as well as in a group
setting that involves interdisciplinary interactions with faculty,
staff, and students. Experience with the use of statistical and
computational computer software and excellent written and verbal
communication skills required.


Responsibilities include: Preparation and imaging of spinal segments
for mechanical testing and the use of both standard and custom
mechanical testing instrumentation. Training will be provided as
necessary. The work further include the use of image based analysis
using commercial as well as, in-house developed software, to assess the
effect of osteolytic defects on the 3D structural competence of the
spines and to assist in the segmentation and creation of image-based FEA
models for analysis of test results. Experience with data acquisition
(LabView) computational (ABAQUS) and data analysis based software is
highly desirable. Duties will also include project management,
interaction with clinicians and research staff, data collection,
assistance in the preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, and grant
proposals.
