PhD Studentship: Biomechanics - Biomaterials

We seek to recruit an enthusiastic individual to work on an exciting biomechanics/biomaterials project in conjunction with 1 major UK NHS hospital.

Theme: Physico-chemical analysis of human bone

The project aims to investigate material/ histomorphometric/ physical and chemical factors that affect the behaviour of human bone.

The PhD will be supported by all the resources available in the Biomechanics laboratories (http://www.cranfield.ac.uk/cds/materials/biomechanics.jsp),

our departmental facilities (http://www.cranfield.ac.uk/cds/facilities)

and our associated collaborating hospitals (http://www.gloshospitals.org.uk/specialties/specialties258372.html).

Skills: The candidate should ideally have an applied science/physics/chemistry background.

Eligibility: An honours degree (either 1st, or 2i, or a 2ii + MSc) on any applied science, engineering, physics, chemistry, materials, or closely related subjects.

The post is open primarily to home (UK/EU) candidates; and there is a generous stipend to accompany this post (stipend of 13240, plus the fees at the home/EU rate, currently 3390)

Duration: 3 years - start date 5th October 2009
