Childrenís Memorial Hospital, ranked as the number one pediatric hospital in the state of Illinois, one of the nationís top ten pediatric hospitals and winner of the 2008 Working Motherís 100 Best Companies, has an immediate opening for a Biomechanical or Biomedical Engineer in the Motion Analysis Center (MAC). The MAC has been established since 1988 and it is underlined by a dynamic interdisciplinary environment consisting of a biomedical engineer, kinesiologist, physical therapists, occupational therapists, orthopaedic surgeons, and sports medicine physician.

The position involves performing clinical motion analysis and sports motion analysis evaluations which include data collection, interpretation of patient data, and report generation. The Engineer is expected to support all aspects of research projects related to the analysis of normal and pathological gait patterns and sports biomechanics. Additionally, the selected candidate will be expected to engage in all laboratory educational efforts which include instructional lectures, resident in-services, and clinical tutorials.

The ideal candidate will have a Masterís in Biomechanical or Biomedical Engineering or related Engineering field with experience in gait analysis and/or upper extremity motion analysis. A BS degree in biomechanics, mechanical engineering, or a related engineering field with a minimum of 3 years experience in clinical gait analysis will also be considered. It is essential that the candidate has the ability to work with children with neuromuscular disabilities. Knowledge of the treatment approaches available to these patients is desirable. Other requirements include previous exposure to the techniques involved in kinematic, kinetic, and electromyographic data collection, the interpretation of pathological and normal gait analysis data, sports biomechanics data and ability to effectively communicate with laboratory staff, physicians, and research project investigators. Computer literacy, including the ability to work in Windows environment, and the ability to program in visual basic is required.
