Post-Doctoral position

in

Functional assessment, modeling and stimulation of musculoskeletal tissues



The position is open immediately for 24 months with the option for a performance based extension. The salary will be based on German law TV-L. The deadline for applications is October 15, 2009.



We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated researcher to join our interdisciplinary research laboratory, which offers outstanding interdisciplinary research opportunities in the field of Regenerative Medicine. The research of our laboratory focuses on the combination of multi-scale and multimodal experimental methods (e.g. scanning acoustic microscopy, high-frequency ultrasound spectroscopy, hyperspectral raman imaging, synchrotron radiation µCT, SAXS, nanoindentation) with numerical simulation methods (finite element analyses, finite difference analyses) in order to derive the complex relations between structure, composition and function in healthy, de- and regenerated tissues. This knowledge is the basis for the development and application of novel non-invasive diagnostic tools dedicated for assessment of functional properties of musculoskeletal tissues (bone, muscle, cartilage, cells) in human patients, small animal models, or in bioreactors.



The applicant will have the opportunity to:

- raise research funds, plan, conduct, and supervise scientific studies independently,

- mentor PhD students,

- support theoretical and practical education at BSRT (PhD level).

The ideal candidate should have:

- an excellent university PhD degree in physics, engineering (or equivalent),

- a profound background in acoustics and elastic theory,

- excellent programming skills (instrumentation, data processing),

- documented experience in scientific working, presentation and publication,

- very good English skills.
