Research Associate Post and PhD studentship

The IRM is seeking to appoint a Research Associate for a three-year project
funded through the New Dynamics of Ageing (NDA), a cross-council research
program of the UK research councils - ESRC, EPSRC, BBSRC, MRC and AHRC. The
project is entitled “Biomechanical and sensory constraints of step and stair
negotiation in old age” and aims at unravelling the underlying causes of
stair-related accidents in the elderly. A 3-year PhD studentship funded by
MMU, which will be linked to the above project, is also available.

Research Associate Salary Grade 8: £30,594 - £36,532 per annum

For the Research Associate post, you should have considerable experience in
biomechanical analysis of human movement and measurement of muscle and joint
kinematics in vivo using optoelectronic motion recording systems and imaging
techniques. A solid knowledge on the effects of ageing on gait and posture
and on principles of strength testing in humans is expected. In addition,
you will be asked to contribute to manuscript submission in these research
areas, so a good knowledge of data handling, statistics and scientific
reporting is required.

Candidates must have a first degree in Human Physiology//Bioengineering,
Exercise Science (or related subject). Postgraduate research experience is
desirable.

For the PhD studentship, candidates with a particular interest and/or
expertise in visual-motor control aspects in addition to motion analysis &
biomechanics are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have Candidates must
