Vacancy Tenure Track Assistant Professor: Biomechanical modelling of bone and implants

In the Dept. of Biomechanical Engineering we want to intensify our efforts in the research area and education of Tissue Biomechanics and Implants. Therefore, we are looking for an expert in finite element and continuum modelling of bone, cartilage, soft tissues, implants, and their interfaces.
In this research line we are closely collaborating with the Depts of Orthopaedic Surgery of Erasmus Medical Center (Rotterdam), with the focus on mechanobiology, and the Leiden University Medical Center considering clinical applications. Within the faculty there is an intensive collaboration with the Biomaterials group and with the Mechanics group.

* The candidate will have the responsibility for the research line at the TU Delft, supervising PhD students and writing grant proposals, and for the teaching and supervision of students in the track 'Tissue Biomechanics and Implants' in the MSc Biomedical Engineering.
* The candidate should hold a PhD and have a strong research and teaching background in computational mechanics with its application in biomechanics.
* The international recognition of the candidate should be backed with an excellent track record of publications in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals and invited lectures.
* The candidate has proven to be able to attract money for research via national and international granting agencies and/or industry.
* The candidate should have experience working with tools such as MARC and MSC Patran. In addition, the candidate should be able to work in a LINUX environment using parallel computing strategies on a computer cluster.
* The candidate should be able to communicate fluently in English, and willing to learn Dutch. Experience with working in a multi-disciplinary research environment where engineers and clinicians collaborate is considered important.
* The candidate will carry out his research at the Department of Biomechanical Engineering, Faculty of 3mE, TU Delft, as well in the Biomechanics and Imaging Group, Department of Orthopaedics, Leiden University Medical Center. The exact distribution of time spend at each of the two institutes will depend on the profile of the candidate.
