A full-time Research Assistant position available in the Department of Radiology and Imaging - MRI, Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, NY

The research assistant will assist in work focusing primarily on quantitative MRI of articular cartilage and knee meniscus during osteoarthritis and post-surgical evaluation: T2 mapping, T1rho mapping, cartilage thickness, cartilage and knee meniscal volume. The research assistant will also assist in imaging studies which investigate pediatric physeal growth plate disruptions, damage to the knee meniscus, and imaging of anatomy around orthopedic implants and hardware.

The specific responsibilities for this position include: consenting volunteers for studies, data collection, processing, analysis and management, manuscript preparation, specimen preparation, and assisting in the evaluation and optimization of MRI pulse sequences.

A minimum of a B.S. in biomedical engineering or closely related field is required, a masters degree is desired. Experience with MATLAB is required. Must be proficient in the use of computers and MS Office software. The candidate should communicate well orally, in writing and presentations. Individuals with a strong interest in the field of MR orthopedic imaging and human subjects research are encouraged to apply. Experience with medical imaging is a plus.

The candidate will work in a clinical environment, as well as with researchers in the Research Division at HSS. The candidate will work directly with Hollis Potter MD and Matthew Koff PhD and their collaborators who include biomedical engineers, orthopedic surgeons, computer scientists, MRI physicists and MRI engineers. The candidate should be a highly motivated individual, capable of working both independently and as part of the larger research team.

The appointment will start immediately and will be for one year initially, with a possible extension for exceptional candidates.
