We are currently seeking to recruit a Cardiff Academic Fellow in the area of orthopaedic
biomaterials. This is a five year postdoctoral post leading to a permanent lectureship, and is a
joint position between the Schools of Engineering and Pharmacy. It forms part of the new Arthritis
Research Campaign Biomechanics and Bioengineering Research Centre, an exciting interdisciplinary
intitiative which brings together researchers from the Schools of Biosciences, Engineering,
Medicine, Pharmacy, Healthcare Sciences and Dentistry with the aim of producing a step change in the
diagnosis and treatment of arthritis.
The main aims of the post are:-
To develop novel biomaterials to improve the fixation and osseointegration of orthopaedic
The candidate will be expected to secure external grant funding as a co-applicant, progressing to a
PI, train MSc/PhD students, and develop an international research profile under the guidance of a
team of established scientists.
To establish an independent national/international research profile and contribute to the strategic
aims and ambitions of the ARCBBC Centre of Excellence.
To contribute progressively towards the delivery of the School’s diverse teaching programmes (in
line with role defined by ARCBBC grant) consistent with career development towards a full
lectureship in year 6.
