*Two PhD Positions in Biomechanics Available in the Department of Mechanical
Engineering, The University of Melbourne

*Two funded PhD positions are available to commence in early 2010 in the
Biomechanics Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering, The
University of Melbourne. The project is funded by the Australian Research
Council under an industry Linkage grant. The research to be undertaken
involves using MRI, CT, and x-ray fluoroscopy to develop patient-specific
models of the knee joint. The purpose will be to investigate muscle and
joint function at the knee during walking in patients fitted with total knee
replacements. Funding is for 3 years in the first instance.

The successful candidates are expected to have:
(i) Knowledge of musculoskeletal and/or movement biomechanics of humans or
other animals (preferably at Masters level)
(ii) Familiarity with finite element software e.g. ABAQUS, ANSYS
(iii) Skills in programming, including Matlab, C, and related software
(iv) Skills in producing high quality written material
(v) Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team alongside engineers,
physiotherapists and orthopaedic surgeons
