Dear subscribers,

Beside the very well known formula(s) that relates age to maximum heart rate, I know that some fitness companies implement algorithms that determine a person's individual rest and maximum heart rate, by going through a test with constant cycle speed and increasing resistance (power) in steps. Does anyone of you know some references on such algorithms? I am talking about simple tests that do not require any additional measurement next to heart rate, cycle speed and mechanical power, and do not require an exhaustive (risky) test.
Additionally I am looking for some references on the reliability of common fitness equipment heart rate measurement reliability (handheld bar sensors).

Thanks a lot!
