Children's Memorial Hospital, ranked as the number one pediatric hospital in the state of Illinois, one of the nation's top ten pediatric hospitals and winner of the 2008 Working Mother's 100 Best Companies, has an immediate opening for a licensed (or eligible for license in the state of Illinois) Physical Therapist in the Motion Analysis Center (MAC). The MAC has been established since 1988 and it is underlined by a dynamic interdisciplinary environment consisting of a biomedical engineer, kinesiologist, physical therapists, occupational therapists, orthopaedic surgeons, and sports medicine physician.
The position is currently part time, but it can be expanded to full time. It involves performing observational gait analysis along with manual muscle testing and goniometric measurements as part of the computerized lower extremity motion analysis studies. If the position is to be developed into full time, the therapist will be expected to additionally collect and analyze optical capture gait data for patients as well as generate the related reports. Furthermore, expectations include involvement in some research related to the analysis of normal and pathological gait patterns. Additionally, the selected candidate will be expected to engage in all laboratory educational efforts which include instructional lectures, resident in-services, and clinical tutorials.
The ideal candidate will have experience in pediatric physical therapy and gait analysis. A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in using manual muscle testing and goniometric measurements as part of clinical evaluations is a requirement. It is essential that the candidate has the ability, interest and desire to work with children with neuromuscular disabilities Previous exposure to the techniques involved in kinematic, kinetic, and electromyographic data collection, the interpretation of pathological and normal gait analysis data, sports biomechanics data and ability to effectively communicate with laboratory staff, physicians, and research project investigators will be highly valued. Computer literacy, including the ability to work in Windows environment is required.
