Position: Biomechanics Research Associate at the Andrews-Paulos Research
and Education Institute (APREI - a non-profit Division of the Andrews
Institute) in Gulf Breeze, FL (www.theandrewsinstitute.com). This full
time position is available immediately or until position is filled
(preferable by June 2010 at the latest).

Job Qualifications: Ph.D. preferred (ABD status considered) in
Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field. Salary
commensurate with experience, and benefits are included.

Major Responsibilities: Assist Research Director with daily operations
of research initiatives, such as designing research projects, writing
and submitting grants for external funding, subject recruitment, data
collection and analyses, statistical analyses, writing and submitting
scientific and technical papers for publication, computer programming
(e.g., Matlab, LabView), attending and presenting at scientific
meetings, cadaveric specimen (mechanical tissue) testing, as well as
additional biomechanics related tasks. Experience with 3-D motion
analysis systems, force platforms, electromyography, commercial and
open-source biomechanical software (e.g., Visual3D, SIMM, OpenSIM,
etc.), and statistical software packages (e.g., SAS, SPSS) is highly
desirable. Knowledge of biomechanical modeling approaches to estimate
in vivo tissue loads (e.g., knee and spinal tissue loads) would also be
an asset. This individual should be highly motivated with a commitment
to excellence, have a strong work ethic, and have excellent personal,
verbal and written communication skills. This individual will
collaborate with a team of biomechanists, sports medicine physicians,
orthopaedic surgeons, orthopaedic fellows and residents, physical
therapists, athletes performance specialists, and graduate students.

Overview of the APREI and the Andrews Institute: The APREI is a 127,000
square-foot all-inclusive complex that houses diagnostic imaging, a
multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center, an outpatient rehabilitation
center, an athletes performance training center, and a human performance
research laboratory, which consists of a 10 camera optical Vicon Nexus
motion analysis system, a 2 camera high speed video system, 4 Bertec
force platforms within a movable force platform pit, an 8 channel
"Zerowire" wireless EMG system, a 16 channel Noraxon TeleMyo DTS
Telemetry Wireless EMG system (with accessories, such as 2-D
Accelerometer, Incline Inclinometer, Electrical Goniometer, Incline
Force Sensor, localized pressure sensor), and an Athletic Republic 3D
Force Treadmill. Additional equipment currently available for use
includes a Biodex System 3 dynamometer for strength and power
assessment, metabolic research and assessment instrumentation, and body
composition DEXA instrumentation. Various software will also be
available, such as Visual 3-D, SIMM, LabView, MatLab, Statistical
Software, etc... The Andrews Institute, which specializes in
Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, provides world-class care and service

place in the world to offer surgery, diagnostic imaging, rehab athletic

center focuses on the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of
musculoskeletal injuries while using the expertise of nationally and
internationally renowned orthopaedic surgeons Dr. James Andrews and Dr
Lonnie Paulos. Dr. Andrews is best known as physician to some of
sport's greatest professional athletes.
