Assistant Research Engineer
National Rehabilitation Hospital / MedStar Health Research Institute,
Washington, D.C.

The MedStar Health Research Institute is currently seeking a full-time
Assistant Research Engineer to work within the Research Division of the
National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, DC. The Assistant Research
Engineer carries out a wide variety of duties under the direct supervision
of project Principal Investigators to help the Research Division fulfill
its mission and goals. General requirements for the position are to assist
with technical and administrative needs of research and development
projects helping to assure efficient operation of activities, resolution of
operational problems, and timely completion of projects and reports.

The successful candidate will work on projects related to
telerehabilitation and self-awareness research and development activities.
Specific duties include assisting with the development, installation, and
maintenance of research-related software and hardware (i.e. custom and
third-party software, webcams, videoconferencing applications, SDKs,
databases). Other responsibilities will involve coordinating and
scheduling study treatment sessions, providing troubleshooting and
technical support to research and clinical staff, and managing
research-related data.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop and troubleshoot computer software and other research-related
equipment and technology.
2. Setup, configure, and maintain equipment used within and across research
3. Assist with recruiting and enrolling patients and collecting and
analyzing data for research projects.
4. Assist with the preparation of research protocols and proposals, formal
papers for submission to peer reviewed journals, and periodic reports to
sponsoring agency(s) on grant projects.
5. Assist with the preparation of written documents necessary for approval
from appropriate Institutional Review Boards on grant related projects.
6. Assist with the development and delivery of technical and promotional
presentations related to research and development projects and activities.
7. Comply with MedStar and NRH Research Division policies and procedures.
8. Other duties as assigned by Director.

Minimum Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering,
Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or comparable field; skills and
experience in software development (C#.NET preferred); excellent written
and spoken communication skills; willingness to work as part of
multi-disciplinary project teams; interest in rehabilitation or
healthcare-related research.
