Postdoctoral Researcher in Locomotor Biomechanics
Location: Near Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, England
Salary: £32,397 pa inclusive of London allowance
Closing Date: Tuesday 16 March 2010
Interview Date: Tuesday 30 March 2010

We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist with a biology, physics,
engineering or mathematics background with an interest in comparative
biomechanics. You will work on a BBSRC funded project, ‘Mechanics and
energetics of stable bipedal locomotion in uneven terrain: Does a
trade-off exist between economy and stability?' This is a 36-month
fixed-term position.

The research will involve studies of walking and running in ground
birds. You will combine experimental measures of mechanics and energy
cost of locomotion with theoretical models. The aim is to develop
general models that apply to all bipeds from birds and humans to
legged robots.

You will have a PhD (or equivalent) and experience in biomechanics,
modelling and/or physiology. No candidate is expected to have prior
experience with all aspects of the project. Willingness to handle and
work around ground birds is essential.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact Dr Monica Daley on

We offer a generous reward package including a final salary pension scheme.
