This new post doctoral research position is being funded by WELMEC - a Centre of Excellence in Medical Engineering funded by the Wellcome Trust and EPSRC. You will work in the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE) within the School of Mechanical Engineering on this exciting new project as part of a multidisciplinary team investigating medical engineering solutions for the ageing population. More details below.

Research Fellow in Biomechanics/Biomedical Engineering: Physiological Simulation Systems of the Spine
The project focuses on the development of physiologically relevant model of a Functional Spinal Unit (FSU) within a functional simulation environment with special reference to the intervertebral disc. These models will be used to generate disease models of the FSU with a view to investigate interventions including tissue engineered treastments as well as more contemporary models. Job Ref 312498.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers, biologists, physicists, clinicians and medical physicists to undertake research. You will have, or expect to obtain shortly, a PhD in Bioengineering or Biomechanics. Experience of design and usage of experimental simulation systems is a requirement for the position as is a strong publication record commensurate with your experience. The roles require that you have the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

The post is available for a fixed term period of 40 months. Applications must be received by the closing date of 12 midnight on Tuesday 25th May 2010Salary: Grade 7 (29,853 - 35,646 p.a) It is likely that an appointment will be made at or below 31,671 p.a. since there are funding limitations which dictate the level at which the appointment can be made
