Dear Biomech-L subscribers,
We plan to inject mice with alendronate and, based on published
literature, dissolved 35 mg tablets of alendronate sodium in normal saline
to a concentration of 5 mg/ml. The problem is that the tablet
disintegrates but it only forms a suspension. We had originally planned
to sterile filter the solution prior to injection but we cannot do this
unless it truly dissolves because some particles may be left behind and
then we wouldn't know the final concentration.

Does anyone know what the trick is to get a tablet to dissolve without
affecting the action of the alendronate?

Thanks,
Karen
