Principal Research Engineer
Job Summary
This position provides advanced technical support toward the accomplishment of research and product development. The individual will be responsible for coordinating and executing research and testing projects characterizing the mechanical and biological properties of materials and products. The individual may supervise the work of subordinate researchers and technicians. The individual is responsible to implement assigned research projects in a timely and efficient manner and to report their results to the responsible research manager. The individual makes technically based decisions that are important to present and future new products.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
-Assists in the development of individual research and testing project plans.
-Is knowledgeable of the capabilities and operation of sophisticated test methods in their area of expertise.
-Is familiar with national and international testing standards related to work in their assigned laboratory.
-Maintains good oral and written communication skills, to participate in meetings related to the research and testing program, and provide timely and accurate reporting on project progress and completion.
-Monitors scientific and medical literature for advancement relevant to the assigned research and testing objectives.
-Consults with and provides technical evaluations for other departments (Manufacturing, Legal, etc.).
-Will work with the testing department to develop test programs, formulate test protocols, and choose appropriate test equipment. This will include supervision of fabrication or selection of new equipment as required.

Expected Areas of Competence (KSA's)
-Must possess an advanced knowledge of material science, engineering, manufacturing processes, and research technologies applicable to assigned areas of responsibility.
-Candidate must have demonstrated self directed working capabilities.
-Microsoft Office Suite and Project
-Ability to learn and apply multiple skill sets as outlined by the engineering review board (i.e. manufacturing, design, materials and testing)

Education/Experience Requirements
M.S/ Ph.D. in mechanical, biomedical or biomaterials engineering required
5-7 years of experience
